Welcome

This past month had a couple of incidents that made life a lot more interesting and challenging. When I was not at home, my Mother fell and severely cut open her elbow. Since there was a good bit of blood loss, as soon as I got home and discovered the situation I called the paramedics for a trip to the emergency room. A few stitches later and she was okay. I was a nervous wreck and the aftermath of the adrenaline rush exhausted me.

A couple of weeks later, my area of Sedona received a rainstorm that dropped about two inches of rain in half an hour. I live almost a quarter mile off of the pavement on a dirt road. That evening, I got home a couple of hours after the storm and our road was too muddy and washed out for me to drive up to the house. I left my car a quarter mile away and walked home. Because of the damage to the road from runoff, I spent the evening shoveling dirt into areas that had washed out. Finally, a neighbor who had a little Bobcat grader (which he was using to clear the mud at the bottom of the road) came up and graded where I was working. The benefit was that the road is now better than it's been in a long time. The joys of living in rural Arizona.

Act As If...

by
Linda-Ann Stewart

The first winter I lived in Sedona it rained all the time, which is unusual for the desert. To get to my house, I had to cross a major wash that was often full of water. There were times when the wash couldn't be crossed for hours. Sometimes, this kept me from getting into town, while at other times it kept me from getting home. One day, a storm was predicted. I had classes that day, in the morning and the evening. Instead of skipping them, I decided to act as if I'd be able to return safely that night. That evening, the rain turned to snow. I drove almost twenty miles with blinding snow flying straight into my headlights, not knowing if I could get home. As I approached the wash, it was nearly dry. The rain had turned to snow early on and the snow hadn't melted enough to fill the wash.

I did not know that the rain was going to turn to snow. I do know that it was a miracle that I got home safely that night. Although I probably should have experimented in a safer situation, it taught me a valuable lesson about acting as if what I wanted was a foregone conclusion.

When we have the attitude of assurance that what we desire is going to manifest, it signals the subconscious mind to seek the channels necessary. Our positive expectation becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because we're also taking the steps to make our goal a reality. The Universe then swoops in to support us, and incredible synchronicities can happen. We might be introduced to the right person to give us the information or help we need, find just what we're looking for, or any number of solutions.

As long as we're moving, taking some action, with our goal in mind, the Universe and our subconscious can direct us. Someone once said, "God can't steer a parked vehicle." Even if our first steps are in the wrong direction, we can be guided into the right path. Visualizing, affirming, making a treasure map, all are valuable aids to get us focused on what we want. But we need to overcome our fear of failure by taking some action every day, and acting as if success is assured.

How would you think and act differently if you knew you were going to succeed? If you wanted to be healthier, you'd eat better, get enough sleep, take steps to reduce stress, and exercise. For higher self-esteem, you'd be supportive of yourself and stand up for yourself because you matter. To reduce weight, you'd eat less, choose healthy foods, and exercise more. To be more successful, you'd cultivate an attitude of confidence and self-assurance, and do everything you knew to move forward.

If you desire a higher income, the attitude of "acting as if" doesn't mean going out and spending more than you currently have. In that case, you'd shop for the things you want, research how to invest, prioritize what you'd buy as your finances improve. To increase your income, you might confidently ask for a raise, look for a better position, expand your abundance consciousness, search for a channel for a second income, or whatever is right for you.

There will likely be setbacks as you begin your journey. If you consider them to be opportunities, then your subconscious will find the way to "make lemons into lemonade." You can learn from them, and keep moving forward. Confidence is catching. If you believe you are going to be a success, then the people you come in contact with will believe it, too. When you "act as if" your success is assured, then all of Life will also believe it, and you'll be amazed at the results.

Affirmation

I know that I can have anything I desire through the power of the Universal Mind. Success in my chosen goal is already assured in that Mind. I now align myself with the idea of confidence in my success, and decide what I need to do, think and be to bring it into reality. As long as I'm moving in the direction of my goal, Infinite Mind can guide and direct me. When I "act as if" success is assured, the Universe swoops in to lift me up and carry me to success.

Question And Answer

Question: I want a better self-image, prosperity, and success, but what do I work on first to achieve these?

Answer: First, a good self-image is the basis of the other two. If you don't feel like you deserve good, you won't manifest more prosperity or success. So the first thing I'd focus on is the self-image. I usually tell people to focus on one issue at a time, but since these three items tend to run hand in hand, I think you can work on all three of them at one time.

Write down what makes you feel bad about yourself. Do you feel like you don't deserve, aren't enough, aren't worthwhile? Turn it around and create a positive statement that affirms your worthiness. Work on self-acceptance. (I have an article about self-acceptance in my February 2001 newsletter, along with an affirmation. You can find the link to it at Newsletter Archives. You'll have to follow the link to the archives at Yahoo! to find that issue.) And to begin with, I'd also state that you deserve prosperity and success in the amount that you want. That would be the first step.

When you start to feel comfortable that you do deserve prosperity and success, then I'd expand the suggestion. State how much prosperity and success that you want. And remember, you don't have to know how it will happen. That's what your subconscious mind is for, to work out the details. That's not to say that you don't have to take some action, or move in that direction. But you don't have to worry about the how.

New Article

This month's guest article is We Are Exactly Where We Choose to Be by Greg Reid. We've all known people who complained about not getting ahead, but they never make the choices or commitment to do what was necessary. But people who have a plan, work that plan, and create a positive environment have opportunities come to them. Although they may not be conscious, we're where we are because of the choices we've made. This article challenges the reader to create a strategy that will manifest desired changes in our lives.

"The Miracle Of Mind Dynamics"
by Joseph Murphy

I am a fan of Joseph Murphy and his writings, and have reviewed a couple of his other books before. This one is full of Universal principals and wisdom for every aspect of life. Examining the subjects of health, life and death, luck and good fortune, prayer, and much more, he illustrates each one with an example in someone's life. He explains spiritual principles in very basic ways, so that every person who reads this can put them to use in their lives immediately. He touches on the metaphysical perspective of many familiar Biblical and spiritual ideas, such as karma and God's will. Although this book doesn't have quite as many affirmations as some of his other books have, it gives specific instructions on how to use the power of the mind to improve one's life. A mine of information on how the Universe works and our place in it, it's a must-have for anyone who yearns to understand more about their relationship to Spirit and Its good.
