Welcome

This is the first issue of my fifth year of publication, and the year had to start with this issue being late. This past week was filled with unexpected joys and challenges. A childhood friend I hadn't seen in over a decade unexpectedly visited. I had to take my mom to the emergency room over the weekend for an infected toe. She's fine. I had an minor accident as I was leaving for a doctor's appointment. Not only was I okay and I got to the appointment on time, but the severe damage I thought had been done to my car's undercarriage was minor and didn't require any repair. Life just didn't cooperate to allow me the time to complete the newsletter by my normal publication time.

Earlier in the month, I joined the Arizona chapter of the National Speaker's Association as a candidate. The latest session of Tobacco-Cessation classes finished up. Jeff and I attended a weekend Renaissance Festival in Flagstaff, as well. So it's been a very busy month, and in light of the events, the current article is especially appropriate for me.

This Is Only A Test

by
Linda-Ann Stewart

Have you ever made a decision, only to have all sorts of blocks thrown in your way? Don't worry, it's only your subconscious testing your resolve. Many years ago, I was letting go of an old, restrictive thought pattern that manifested in my car requiring constant repairs. My car continued to break down for some time. Another example could be someone choosing to make a change in their eating habits only to find themselves invited to a string of parties. Or a smoker in the process of quitting smoking suddenly finds himself in a new, and stressful job.

In this situation, many people would say, "The Universe is testing me." But the Universe never tests us. The Universe wants the best for us, and is always pouring the optimum circumstances into our lives. But our old, negative thought patterns restrict that good, and what we get is as much as we can accept. Think of a hose spraying a full stream of water. Now imagine beginning to kink the hose until there is only a trickle of water flowing out. That is how our negative beliefs and ideas restrict the good the Universe sends our way. All the good is gushing full pressure, but we've limited how much flows into our lives.

Before it goes to all the effort to change a thought pattern, our subconscious checks to see how dedicated we are to the change that we wish to make. This is especially true when we make a choice that is in direct opposition to a habit, belief, attitude, or behavior that we've had for a long time. In the subconscious, the dominant idea, the one with the most energy, emotion, attention, or repetition is the one that the inner mind acts on. Wouldn't you? Let's imagine that someone instructs you to "Open the left door" ten times, then says "Open the door on the right." From habit, you reach for the door on the left and they say, "Oh, okay." Would you think they were serious the next time they said to open the door on the right?

A person making a lifestyle change will have many opportunities to test their dedication. If there's any ambivalence, the subconscious will sense that as indecision. The subconscious will figure that the person doesn't really want the change, so throws all sorts of challenges to assess how committed they are.

When a person begins the process to quit smoking, generally they have several relapses before they actually achieve their goal. Their subconscious tests them to find out how dedicated they are. With each relapse, they learn something more about what works for them. Once they finally and irrevocably decide to stop smoking, their subconscious supports them in direct proportion to their committment to being a nonsmoker. This is why some people can stop smoking "cold turkey," and it takes other people weeks or months or years to succeed.

When my car kept breaking down, I didn't slide back into the old, negative thinking. I stayed on course to the new pattern of thinking. It wasn't easy, but over a period of months, the severity of my car repairs decreased. With each breakdown, I had to choose whether to buy into the old thought pattern or to remain true to the new one.

Instead of thinking of blocks and challenges as your being "tested," reframe the idea into considering them "opportunities" to learn more, solidify your commitment, and further exercise your new choice. Instead of a sense of frustration and helplessness, you'll feel empowered, knowing that you are making progress toward your goal.

Affirmation

I now recognize that any blocks that I encounter in the path of my desire are simply my subconscious testing my resolve. I dedicate myself to my new choice, and take all the actions to bring it about. As I do so, my subconscious understands my dedication, and quickly begins to support my decision. I perceive each challenge as an opportunity that brings me closer to my goal.

Question And Answer

Question: Can hypnosis help me believe that I will find my life partner, releasing the fear that it will never happen?

Answer: Hypnosis isn't a magic wand, it works with the subconscious mind to help change attitudes, beliefs and both mental and physical habits quickly. Hypnosis can help to release fears, and help to believe in finding the perfect partner for you. Settle on an affirmative statement about this, like "The person I'm looking for is looking for me, someone who harmonizes with me" and some of the characteristics you're looking for. Write a statement that convinces you that it's possible, then trust your subconscious to do its work. As long as you doubt it, then your subconscious will be acting on your doubt. Read my articles, How To Create Good In Your Live, part 1-4 to understand how the subconscious works.

Recommended Website

I don't usually recommend other websites, unless I really think they are unusual, and have resources that are of interest to the readers of my newsletter. This is one of those. I've been subscribing to the "Mind Power News" Newsletter for several months, and find the articles in it to be fascinating. Basically, the articles are from other sources, sometimes scientific, but they address how the mind affects the body, health, etc. Each issue has articles along the same subject line, such as "Finding Your Inner Genius," "Life, the Universe, and Everything," "Plants Can Think," and "Spookier Than Usual." To look at the quality of articles that are included in this newsletter, go to MindPowerNews.com.

New Article

This month's guest article is 7 Secrets Of Success - How To Break The Chains That Bind You... by Asoka Selvarajah, Ph.D. This hard-hitting article claims that there is almost no reason why a person in the modern world should remain in poverty. It examines the mental attitude that is required for creating wealth, and encourages the reader to adopt it.

"Controlling People: How to Recognize, Understand and Deal with People Who Try to Control You"
by Patricia Evans

This is a great book for anyone with a controlling person in their life. Patricia Evans has written a couple of other books that I've recommended, "The Verbally Abusive Relationship" and "Verbal Abuse Survivor's Speak Out." "Controlling People" goes into greater detail of why these people act as they do. For them, the people close to them are cardboard characters that they project their own thoughts onto. They expect people to agree with them at all times, and to read their thoughts about what they want. The old "If you loved me, you'd know what I want" is their theme. And if the other person doesn't agree, or reflect the controlling person's ideas, then the controlling person feels betrayed and many times will fly into a rage. Not only does this happen in personal relationships, but it also occurs in society, different cultures, and religions, resulting in bigotry, prejudice, stereotypes, and sometimes death. It all has to do with trying to control others so that they think like the controller, so the controller feels comfortable and safe.

This book was an eye-opener for me in understanding various people I've had dealings with. I recommend it to anyone who has a boss, relative, friend or partner who is controlling.
